Hot-Sync

What is required for hot-sync?

The following components are required for Wine Master hot-sync: The Wine Master Conduit 1.2 is included in the Wine Master for Windows download. You must install the Conduit before you can use it. See the Wine Master for Windows Help for details on how to install the Wine Master Conduit.

How do I install the software?

(The following information is covered in detail in the Wine Master for Windows Help.)

Before you install, backup your Wine Master for Palm database as follows:
  1. Do a standard hot-sync with your handheld.
  2. Save a copy of the "PbWineDB.pdb" file that is in your desktop Palm user backup folder.
Download the latest versions of the following software: Install Wine Master for Palm using the Palm Desktop software.

Install Wine Master for Windows by running the downloaded wm_winc.exe file.

Install the Wine Master Hot_Sync conduit by doing the following: See the Wine Master for Windows Help for detailed hot-sync instructions.

Can I Hot-Sync right away?

No. Follow the hot-sync instructions in the Wine Master for Windows Help for what you need to do before your first hot-sync.

Your first hot-sync is very critical. You must decide whether the handheld or the desktop computer will be the master for the first hot-sync. After the first hot-sync, your handheld and desktop computer will be kept synchronized automatically.

It is important that you follow the instructions in the Wine Master for Windows Help carefully. Otherwise, you could end up with jumbled wine collections on the Handheld and Desktop.

Why don't the wines on the handheld show up on the desktop?

Are you sure you are opening the hot-sync file (File/Open Hot-Sync) when you use Wine Master for Windows? You may be opening another file that is not being used for hot-sync. You can verify the hot-sync file by choosing the Options/Hot-Sync menu command. The file being used for hot-sync is displayed there.

Another possibility is that the hot-sync wine collection is open in Wine Master for Windows during a hot-sync. It's recommended that you do not have the hot-sync wine collection open in Wine Master for Windows during a hot-sync.

Why are my wines being duplicated when I hot-sync?

One of the steps in setting up hot-sync was missed. Most likely it was because the "Handheld overrides desktop" or "Desktop overrides Handheld" was not selected for the first hot-sync. To correct this, select either the wine collection on the desktop or handheld as the one you want to use. This will require removing duplicates from that collection. After removing duplicates from the selected wine collection, set the override for the next hot-sync. The steps to do that are as follows (this example assumes you have removed duplicates from the desktop wine collection):

Set the Wine Master conduit to "Desktop overrides handheld". The steps are:
  1. On the desktop, tap the Hot-Sync Manager icon.
  2. Choose the "Custom" menu item.
  3. Select "Wine Master" on the conduit list.
  4. Click the "Change" button.
  5. Select the "Desktop overrides handheld" option.
  6. Make sure the "Default" checkbox is _not_ checked.
  7. Close the Hot-Sync Manager.
  8. Do a hot-sync.
This will copy the good wine database from the desktop to the Palm device. It will also set you up for full-synchronization for subsequent hot-syncs. The Wine Master for Windows Help also has detailed instructions on how to set the initial override.

Why can't I change the Hot-Sync Manager "Custom" setting?

You are probably using an early version of the Palm Desktop and Hot-Sync Manager software. You can get free updates at Palm, Inc. Support Downloads and Updates

Can I have more than one wine collection and switch them for hot-sync?

You can have as many desktop wine collections as you want. For instance, a France collection for your trip to France, an Italy collection for your trip to Italy, etc. You select which collection is hot-synced. When you do this, follow the Wine Master for Windows Help instructions to set "Desktop overrides Handheld" for the first hot-sync after you change your hot-sync collection selection.

Printing

How can I print a copy of the View by "Vintage" screen?

Before you print, move the separators between the column labels in the view. This lets you squeeze and expand the columns. Set it up the way you want and then "File/Print". You might also want to use "File/Print Setup" to switch to "Landscape" view to give you more width on the printed page.

If you accidently squeeze a column completely out of sight, quit and restart Wine Master for Windows. It will open up the column a smidgen so that you can adjust it again.

Ratings

I lost my ratings when I opened a saved collection. What happened?

This is a bug in v1.0 that was fixed in v2.0. The rating was lost when you "Save" the collection.
It did not affect the import and export of Wine Master and Desktop files.
If you are still using 1.0, restore and preserve the ratings by doing the following:
  1. Hot-sync with your Palm.
  2. Import the Wine Master for Palm backup file. The file name is "PbWineDB.pdb".
  3. Use Export-Wine Master and Import-Wine Master instead of Save and Open.
The bug was fixed in Wine Master for Windows 2.0.
